joker april fool 4

Happy April Fool’s Day!

It’s that time of the year to watch out for falling pails filled with water, fake lottery-winning announcements, glue on door handles and all those other classic examples of well-meant tomfoolery. We get it; it’s harmless and good for a laugh.

When a brand plays an April Fool’s joke, like when Google changed their name to Topeka after the city of Topeka changed its name to Google, Kansas for a month, it shows that even world-dominating brands can poke fun at themselves.

We get it; it’s harmless and good for a laugh.

But trying to pull the wool over peoples’ eyes all the time?

That’s just not very funny. There are many instances where this happens that we often take for granted.

For example:

Small “Terms & Conditions apply” clause.

WE’RE NO. 1!
For a month. Or as “proven” by a research firm owned by the company. Or both.

In a market filled with ultimate lifestyle developments.

There’s a reason why April Fool’s Day happens just once a year; nobody wants to be made to look stupid all the time. Least of all your customers.

On that note, have a fun-filled April Fool’s. Just keep it to one day!

How would your brand participate in the golden age of the geek?
